Work on a new dental practice in Stafford town centre can carry on after planning approval was granted.

The application relates to 38 Greengate Street, a Grade II listed building in Stafford’s conservation area, which is being brought back into use as The Dentist at Stafford.
Stafford Borough Council issued its decision on Friday 8 May 2026.
What has been approved?
The building was most recently used as a hairdressing salon, but the plans allow it to be used as a dental practice.
The approved works include:
Internal alterations for a dental fit-out
External repairs and redecoration
New fire doors, lighting and alarm systems
Dental-related services inside the building
Rear ventilation grilles, finished in traditional red/orange terracotta
The council’s officer report says the amended works are acceptable and will not harm the historic character of the listed building or the conservation area.
About The Dentist at Stafford
The Dentist at Stafford is a new private dental clinic coming to 38 Greengate Street, Stafford, ST16 2JA.
The practice says it aims to provide private dental care in a friendly and professional setting, with people able to register their interest through its website. Its listed services include general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, emergency care, anti-wrinkle and dermal treatments, and other services.
The practice website lists its contact details as:
Phone: 01785 413 560 Email: info@dentistatstafford.com Address: 38 Greengate Street, Stafford, ST16 2JA Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm.
Why the building matters
The building is listed alongside 37 Greengate Street as part of a pair of early 18th-century shops. Because of this, the plans had to consider the historic character of the building as well as the new use.
Some parts of the original proposal were changed during the application process after comments from the conservation team. The final officer report says the works will allow the listed building to continue being used while preserving its significance.
For Stafford town centre, the approval means another vacant unit on Greengate Street is set to be brought back into active use.
