Renovation Work Underway At Stafford Parent And Baby Unit

Renovation work is underway at a specialist Parent and Baby Unit in Stafford.

The work is taking place at the Brockington Parent and Baby Unit, based at St George’s Hospital. The unit supports women who are experiencing mental health challenges during pregnancy or early motherhood.

The unit allows mothers to receive care while continuing to look after their baby in a calm and supportive setting. Existing facilities include private bedrooms, treatment and therapy spaces, a private garden, creche, kitchen and dining areas.

What is changing?

The renovation work is expected to be completed in December.

Planned improvements include:

  • More welcoming and therapeutic clinical spaces

  • En-suite facilities added to bedrooms

  • Upgraded temperature regulation systems

Work appears to have started earlier this year, with a crane seen at the site in March.

Why it matters

The Brockington Parent and Baby Unit is run by Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Its team includes nurses, nursery nurses, doctors, health visitors, psychologists, occupational therapists, healthcare support workers, housekeepers and administrative staff.

Victoria Dyson-Lynne, Perinatal and Maternal Mental Health Service Manager, said the work comes after the unit celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

She said the renovations are a look to the future and will help the unit continue to provide strong perinatal mental health support for mothers, babies and families.
