Harveys closes Stafford town centre shop after more than 26 years

A Stafford town centre shop has closed after more than 26 years of trading.

Harveys, based at 17 Greengate Street, has put a notice in its window saying it has “regretfully” had to close its doors.

The note says rising costs and falling footfall have contributed to the closure.

It also thanks loyal customers and says trophies and engraving services are still available by email.

The notice reads: “After 26 and a half years we’ve regretfully had to close our doors. Rising costs and falling footfall have contributed to this. We thank all our loyal customers and wish you well.”

It adds that customers can still email harveystrophies@aol.com for trophies and engraving, with a dedicated website due to follow.

The unit is now listed by Stafford commercial property agents Millar Sandy.

The listing says 17 Greengate Street is a 295 sq ft retail unit in Stafford town centre, on the south side of the pedestrianised Greengate Street at its junction with Tipping Street.

The former Harveys unit is below Oddfellows Hall. The building is split into separate spaces, including That Little Bookshop, the hall above, and the now empty shop unit.

Millar Sandy says the property is close to businesses including Superdrug, Ladbrokes, Coffee No. 1 and CeX. Its listing also notes that That Little Bookshop, which recently opened next door, has become a popular customer destination.

The closure is another change for Greengate Street, one of Stafford town centre’s main shopping areas.
