Stafford in the running for Spud Man station visit

Stafford is in the running to host a Spud Man pop-up event as part of a new vote launched by London Northwestern Railway.

The rail company has teamed up with Ben Newman, better known online as Spud Man, to celebrate its new Class 730 trains on the Trent Valley Line.

People are being asked to vote for the station community they want Spud Man to visit next. Stafford is one of the stops included in the vote, alongside other Trent Valley Line locations.

London Northwestern Railway says the location with the most votes will receive a full Spud Man pop-up, with free jacket potatoes available on the day, as well as prizes, competitions, giveaways and photo opportunities with Spud Man.

The winning location is due to be announced on 1 July. In a video about the vote, Spud Man said he will visit the winning location on 25 July.

The competition follows previous Spud Man visits on the London Northwestern Railway network, where he served free loaded jacket potatoes in Milton Keynes, Crewe and Tamworth.

Stafford Bulletin recently bumped into Spud Man in Stafford on 29 May, when he came to film in the town. At the time, he gave a hint that something exciting involving Stafford could be coming.

Spud Man has built a large following online through videos from his jacket potato business in Tamworth. London Northwestern Railway describes him as a TikTok figure with more than five million followers.

The vote is linked to the launch of the new Class 730 trains now running on the Trent Valley Line. London Northwestern Railway says the trains include features such as plug and USB sockets at every seat, improved accessible spaces, more space and improved comfort.

Voting is open through the London Northwestern Railway website.
